Two long range efforts in the second half from Demi Edwards and Kirsty Matthews ensured the win for the Bees as they go through to the Second Round of the County Cup following a strong performance.
The First Team came into Sunday’s County Cup clash looking to continue their unbeaten run and were filled with confidence following their historic win at the Gtech Community Stadium last weekend.
They displayed this confidence in the opening stages of the game and came inches away from taking the lead on 12 minutes.
Nikki Saunders took on Actonians' right back, Darcie Townley and delivered a perfect cross to Chloe Logie, but the Brentford number nine wasn’t able to keep her close range effort down as it went inches over the bar.
After being awarded a free kick from around 25 yards out, Actonians' Rosie Hay, struck her set piece with power with her effort crashing against the bar leaving the home team unfortunate to not have opened the scoring.
Despite playing some good football the Bees struggled to forge any goal-scoring opportunities in the opening half hour.
Matthews’ effort on 34 minutes went just wide after she was played through brilliantly by Logie.
Just a few moments later substitute Jodie Reid found Saunders with an excellent through ball, the Brentford number 12 cut inside and attempted to curl the ball into the far corner but her strike went just wide.
The Bees started the second half in the worst possible way after Nadia Peters brought down Kayleigh Peters in the penalty box, with the referee deeming the tackle to be a foul and pointing to the spot.
Azza Fouly, who was making her debut for the Bees saved the penalty from Fiona Moloney, much to her teammates joy as she kept the score line level.
This seemed to wake the visitors up and they began to play some nice football with Edwards looking dangerous every time she got onto the ball.
After several warning signs, the Brentford number 20 finally made Actonians pay as she opened the scoring for Brentford.
The attacker found herself in space from around 25 yards out and smashed the ball into Elisa Dogor’s left corner leaving the Actonians keeper with no chance.
Edwards was at it again just a few minutes later, this time she played through Logie but the First Team's top scorer put her effort just over the bar.
Despite the away team seemingly taking over the game Actonians still posed a threat.
Hay found herself in space just outside the box and let fly with her shot looking destined to find the top corner, but Fouly was there again to pull off a world-class save tipping the ball just past the post.
The Bees bounced back following this, making it 0-2 on 78 minutes after a wonder strike from Matthews.
The number 15 cut inside from the right flank and unleashed a shot which flew straight into the top left corner, a goal which Matthews will remember for a long time.
The second half performance from the First Team matched their outing in the second 45 last weekend, with lovely flowing football on display.
A brilliant pass from Captain, Sophie Troth played through Matthews who was one on one with Dogor but the Actonians' keeper made a good save this time.
The away team were able to comfortably see out the remaining minutes of the game, ensuring their place in the hat for the Second Round of the County Cup.
