Nathan Young-Coombes netted his first senior goals as AFC Wimbledon and Doncaster Rovers shared the Sky Bet League Two points in a crazy finish at Plough Lane.
Brought off the bench just past the hour mark with the game goalless, Nathan struck twice in eight minutes to seemingly secure the points.
His first came following a scramble in the box while his second showed a true striker’s instinct, getting across his man at the near post and turning home. However, Tommy Rowe pulled one back for Rovers with four minutes to play and then Ro-Shaun Williams popped up deep into injury-time to head home the dramatic equaliser.
Paris Maghoma played the full 90 minutes for the Dons at the weekend as he did last Tuesday during their 2-0 Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Gillingham. As with Saturday, both the goals AFC conceded came late, Gillingham striking in injury-time through Jordan Green and Mikael Mandron. Nathan also played an hour last midweek with two away trips now on the horizon for the pair. Tomorrow night, Neal Ardley’s side head to Mansfield Town before visiting Crawley Town on Saturday.
One player who won’t be involved for Crawley at the weekend is Ellery Balcombe. The Bees ‘keeper suffered an injury during the Red Devils’ opening-day defeat to Carlisle United, which has forced him on to the sidelines. In his absence, Kevin Betsy’s side have just one point to their name from three League Two matches.
Also in the fourth tier, Lachlan Brook played the opening 45 minutes as Crewe Alexandra suffered their first league defeat of the campaign. Lachlan wasn’t involved last midweek as the Railwaymen were beaten 4-0 by Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup but returned to the starting XI for their trip to Salford. By the time he was withdrawn at the interval, Crewe were a goal down, scored by former Bee Conor McAleny, and a man down. Things got worse after the interval with Brandon Thomas-Asante netting a quickfire double to put the game to bed. Alex Morris’ side now have consecutive home games to look forward to against Sutton United tomorrow night and Northampton Town on Saturday.
In Sky Bet League One, MK Dons now prop up the table following their 3-0 defeat at Ipswich Town. Daniel Oyegoke, who wasn’t involved last midweek as MK beat Sutton United 1-0 in the Carabao Cup, played 67 minutes in East Anglia. The game was effectively wrapped up inside the first 28 minutes as Wes Burns and Marcus Harness found the back of the net. Conor Chaplin made it three on the hour as MK suffered a third-straight league reverse. Liam Manning’s side have a pair of home games to look forward to this week, against Port Vale and Accrington Stanley, as they look to kick-start their season.
Over in Denmark, Mads Bidstrup and FC Nordsjaelland extended their lead at the top of the Danish Superliga to three points on Sunday despite failing to win for the first time this campaign. FCN dominated their trip to AaB but couldn’t get the goal that their performance merited. Mads played 77 minutes as the two sides - both managed by former Brentford B Head Coaches, Lars Friis and Flemming Pedersen - couldn’t be separated. Next Sunday sees FCN host their nearest challengers, Silkeborg IF, at Right to Dream Park.
